I worked for a huge health care company. One day we had a large meeting. I still have no idea why the meeting was called. An actuary got up and in a monotone and soft voice looking down starting reading a report. We were told our benefits would decrease while those of physicians and nurses would increase since since they are more valuable employees.
I was working in accounting at the time. Ok, that sucks. I'm not so valuable. Then, it got worse. The actuary stated that they had determined that preventative care was not in their best interest. The reasoning was that if we left the company someone else might get the value of our good health. So, the actuary said they had determined not to put any money or interest into preventative care.
They say they are a non-profit, but yeah, they're all about money.
